Some islands, such as the Hawaiian Islands, Ireland, and Great Britain are so large they have many cities built upon them, and there are many farms and dense woods upon the same islands. Some have many rivers flowing through them.

If you were on a large island, how could you prove that it was an island? If you wanted to leave it, how could you do so?

Study this lesson's satellite picture of two large islands in Europe. Point out Great Britain (the largest island) and Ireland (the next largest island).

Use your finger or the mouse pointer to circle Great Britain through the water without crossing land.

Use your finger or the mouse pointer to circle Ireland through the water without crossing land.

Notebook Work: Label the top of your notebook page with "LESSON 7." Sketch the European islands in your notebook and label your sketch "LARGE ISLANDS." Color the blue water that fully encircles your large islands.
